In Game I, Wayne Co. held Nash
Co. to seven hits en route to a 10-7
win, behind the pitching of Paul
Parrish. In addition, Wayne Co. hit
three home runs saddling Jeremy
Ward with the loss.
Ward lead Nash Co. at the plate,
going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a
double.
Leading the way for Wayne Co.
was Anthony Weeks at 2-for-4 with
a homer, Randy Ridsby 2-for-4 with
ahomer,Ray Grantham 2-for-3 with
two RBIs and a double, Tico How-
ard 2-for-3 with an RBI double and
Kirby Southerland with a three run
homer.
In Game 2, Nash Co. jumped out
to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but
slipped the rest of the way to lose 9-
4.
Anthony High lead off with a
single and Ward drew a walk. After
Andy Jones popped up for the first
out,, Kenny Wilson slashed an RBI
single to left, scoring High and
advancing Ward to third base. Ward
then scored on a passed ball.
Wayne Co. starter Ray Grantham
then proceeded to walk three straight
batters before retiring the side.
Wayne Co. tied the game in the
bottom of the third, but Nash Co.
went ahead temporarily in the fourth
on a solo home run from High. It
capped the scoring for his team.
Wayne Co. went on to add three
runs in the bottom frame of the fourth
and three more in the bottom of the
fifth to put the game out of reach.
Anthony Kozal got the relief win
for Wayne Co. while Wilson took
the loss.
High paced Nash Co. with a 2-
for-4 effort.
Wayne Co. was lead by David
Brown at 2-for-4, Ridsby at 2-for-4
with two RBIs and Southerland
cracked a three run homer while going
2-for-3.

CHEVROLET GEO TRACKER/SUZUKI SIDEKICK 4X4
Four-wheel drive vehicles don't have to fit the popular conception of a
gas-guzzling, jacked-up monster. Proof of this is Chevrolet's Gee Tracker
and Suzuki Sidekick, twins as they're built and sold under a joint agreement.
Inside the new four-door high line JLX hardtop, Suzuki (the exact model
tested) was attractive but not plush. It's equipped with extremely comfortable
cloth-covered bucket seats, and there's plenty of room for even the brawniest
off-reader. On the fold-down rear bench there's decent leg room, but don't
plan on carrying adults with regularity. As this was the four-door model --
a distinctly different and much, much superior vehicle to the two-door in
every way -- there's plenty of cargo space.
Instrumentation was analog and sparse, but adequate. Nook and cranny
storage areas were abundant, but a decent cupholder is missing.
The Sidekick/Tracker was equipped with a smooth new 1.6 liter 95-HP
fuel-injected "4" with four valves per cylinder, a vast improvement in torque
and response over the original 80 HP wheezer. In this application, 0-60 takes
12.9 seconds, still not fast but adequate. Observed mileage was 20 city and
24 highway (EPA 24/26), better than the class average.
The Sidekick was equipped with a three-speed transfer case offering
four-wheel drive high-low and two-wheel drive high. New this year are
automatic hubs; no longer do you have to get out and lock the wheels to
engage four-wheel drive. Ground clearance on this $13,699 base price vehicle
is 7.9 inches; A trip to a mud bog showed it handles off-reading well, but its
forte lies in inclement weather use. It weighs just 2,700 pounds, and as such
doesn't have the massive frame members of the hard-core Jeep off-readers.
Turning to ride, the Sidekick's has been upgraded to "more than pleasant."
You'll never have a complaint, despite this being a 4x4!
Handling and ease of steering (power assist is standard) is acceptable. With
a listed 35-foot turning circle, it should be nimble. It isn't, though: I measured
near 38. Comers are taken fairly well with minimal lean, but remember, this
is a Jeep-type vehicle. It has a high center of gravity and can't be judged like
a sedan. Drive within reasonable limits. If you don't, remember, the aggrava-
tion wasn't the vehicle's fault!
The Sidekick's tires were all-season radials. They were surprisingly good,
but nowhere near street types in wet or dry grip.
The sound system was a good quality though low power Suzuki AM/FM
with tape player. It wasn't cheap, though, and you can get a much better deal
at an afterrnarket supplier.
The heater in the test truck was excellent; the same can be said for the air
conditioning, an $800-plus option.
Overall, the hardtop (NOT the soft top or two-door models) four-door
Sidekick/Tracker rates high as a light off-reader and inclement weather 4x4.
Quality control throughout was excellent, so you can buy with confidence.
Should you purchase the Suzuki or GM version? Make a decision based on
whose dealer is nearest and offers the best financial terms. Compare warran-
ties, too. There's considerable fine print to weigh.
The Tracker/Sidekick JLX four-door hardtop for '92 is a vastly improved
vehicle. It's a reasonable choice!
